United Carrier Registration (UCR)
42 States require UCR compliance in order to cross their border. You must be UCR compliant for every year that you travel outside of your base State.
Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) provides information truck size and weight limits for US Highways and Interstate. Their website covers vehicle size and weight, bridge formula weights, and information about Citations & Civil Assessments issued for overweight violations.
International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA)
IFTA or the International Fuel Tax Agreement is a cooperative agreement between the 48 contiguous States of the United States and the 10 Provinces of Canada to collect fuel tax. You are required to apply for IFTA within your Jurisdiction (State or Province) if you operate in two or more Jurisdictions. United States Department of Transportation (USDOT)
The US Department of Transportation website has many resources available to carriers and truck drivers. Need information on trucker’s hours of service regulations? They have it. Need information on traffic and road closures? The US DOT website has this information and quite a bit more in regards to transportation laws and regulations within the individual States of the United States and the Federal Government guidelines.
