Transportation Restrictions

 

No travel is allowed when road conditions, weather conditions or visibility makes traveling hazardous.

The following holidays are restricted: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Victory Day (second Monday in August), Labor Day, Columbus day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.  If a holiday falls on Sunday, the following Monday is also restricted as a holiday and if a holiday falls on a Saturday the previous Friday is restricted as a holiday after noon.  If a holiday falls during the week, travel is allowed up to 12:00 noon on the day before the holiday.

Operating Time

Half an hour before sunrise to Half an hour after sunset.

For single trip permits: Monday through Sunday during daylight hours excluding 7:00–9:00am and 3:00–7:00pm.

No nighttime travel is authorized except for vehicles which are overweight only and are capable of traveling with the traffic flow on a case-by-case basis.

For mobile or modular homes over 12’0″ wide, for construction equipment over 13’0″ wide and for cranes the allowable time periods for travel are between sunrise and 7:00am and between 9:00am and 3:30pm on all of I-195 and on I-95 from the Massachusetts/Rhode Island state line to state Route 37.

Weekend Travel

No travel allowed Saturday & Sunday.

Superloads

Anything over Routine Issue dimensions requires special approval from the DOT.

Oversize Load Signs

“Oversize Load” signs required for all oversize transports.

Flags/Lights

18” red or orange flags required for the corners and widest points of any over-wide load and at the end of any overhang over 4’.

Blades

As long as the blade or bucket doesn’t create the oversize / overweight, can be hauled together.
