Transportation Restrictions
The following holidays are restricted: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the day after, Christmas Eve, & Christmas.
No movement when visibility is poor or the highway is considered dangerous due to rain, snow, slush, ice, or any other condition deemed unsafe by the Issuing Authority or a State Police officer.
Throughout the year, the following restrictions are in effect: mobile homes and modular units 11’6″ to 13’6″ wide are excluded from moving Saturdays, Sundays, & all Legal Holidays; mobile homes and modular units 13’7″ to 14’6″ wide are excluded from moving Friday afternoons, Saturdays, Sundays, & all Legal Holidays; and mobile homes and modular units over 14’6″ wide can only move on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays.
Oversize loads may travel on the Maine Turnpike from half an hour before sunrise until half an hour after sunset (daylight hours), except for Friday afternoons, Saturdays, Sundays, all Legal Holidays, & certain extended Holidays. The total height is limited to 13’6″ and total width is limited to 14’6″. For additional information, contact the Maine Turnpike Authority.
Operating Time
Vehicles permitted for overweight-only that are capable of moving with the flow of traffic may move at any time of day.
Oversized loads are limited to travel one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.

Transportation Requirements
Superloads
Anything over Routine Issue dimensions requires special approval from the DOT.
Oversize Load Signs
“Oversize Load” signs required for any oversize transport.
Flags/Lights
18” red or orange flags and a rotating or flashing amber light bar required for any oversize load.
Blades
Construction equipment can have the blade or bucket attached. If removed, it must be on a
separate trailer.
