Lincoln & Omaha Travel Restrictions for Permitted Loads

Omaha – State Highways & Interstates: 7am – 9am & 4pm – 6pm (Monday – Friday) Travel prohibited after 12pm on Saturday & Sunday

Lincoln – State Highways: 7am – 9am & 4pm – 6pm (Monday – Friday) Travel prohibited after 12pm on Saturday & Sunday

Nebraska Cornhusker Home Football Games: Refer to your permit.

Weather Restrictions: Overdimensional permit travel is prohibited if any of the following adverse or inclement weather conditions exist:

*Winds 25 mph or more
*Visibility is less than 1/2 mile
*Rain, Sleet, or snow (Wet pavement & light drizzle is not inclement weather)
*Highway Surfaces are slippery due to ice, snow, packed snow, slush or frost.
*Debris from an accident, natural disaster, or emergency on the highway

Operating Time

Half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset. Overweight only loads may travel 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.

Weekend Travel

Travel is permitted 7 days a week unless otherwise specified on the permit

Transportation Requirements


Anything over Routine Issue dimensions requires special approval from the DOT.

Oversize Load Signs

“Oversize Load” signs required for any load over 10’ wide.


18’ red flags required on the four corners of any load over 12’ wide.


Tractors with blades or rippers may have to have the blades or rippers removed, depending on
weight and route to be traveled.

Escorts may also be required at lesser dimensions if deemed necessary for the safety of the motoring public.

A light bar may be allowed in lieu of an escort vehicle on divided highways when expressly
stated on the permit.
The light bar attachment must comply with the following:
1. Must have a left and right rotating amber, yellow or flashing light of sufficient size to be seen at a distance of not less than 800'.
2. Light bar attachment shall be mounted on the rear of the load at a height
sufficient to be seen clearly by traffic to the rear.
