When hazardous conditions are present, such as those caused by snow, ice, sleet, fog, mist, rain, dust, or smoke, adversely affect visibility or traction speed shall be reduced and extreme caution shall be taken. If conditions become sufficiently dangerous, the operation of the commercial motor vehicle shall be discontinued and shall not be resumed until the commercial motor vehicle can be safely operated. Whenever compliance with the foregoing provisions of this rule increases hazard to passengers, the commercial motor vehicle may be operated to the nearest point at which the safety of passengers is assured.

Trucking Permits Goal - Coast 2 Coast Trucking Permits

Unless otherwise authorized by the Motor Carrier Division, travel is prohibited for loads in excess of 10′ wide, 105′ overall length, and 14′ in height Monday thru Friday between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM as well as 3:30 PM and 6:00 PM on the following highways:

  • All highways south of Perry Interchange, I-15, Exit #357.
  • All highways in Weber, Davis, and Salt Lake Counties.
  • All highways north of Ironton Interchange, I-15, Exit #261
  • SR 68, North of Mile Post 16 in Utah County.

Travel is prohibited for loads in excess of 10′ wide, 105′ overall length, and 14′ in height during the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

When the holiday is observed on a Monday, travel is prohibited from 2:00 PM on Friday until daylight on the Tuesday following the recognized holiday.  When the holiday is observed on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, travel is prohibited from 2:00 PM on the day before the holiday until daylight the day after the holiday.

Coast 2 Coast Trucking Permits Across the USA

Operating Time

Half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset. Transports not exceeding 12’ wide on highways, 14’ wide on interstate, and 14’ high on all roadways may travel at night.

Weekend Travel

No weekend travel restrictions.

Superloads

Anything over Routine Issue dimensions require special overview and approval from the DOT.

Oversize Load Signs

“Oversize Load” signs required for transports exceeding 10’ wide, 14’ high, or 92’ long.

Flags/Lights

Rear overhang exceeding 4’ requires a red clearance light for night travel. Vehicles with front or rear overhang exceeding 20’ require rotating warning lights.
Red or Orange flags required for transports exceeding 10’ wide or on overhangs exceeding 3’ front or 4’ rear.

Blades

Dozer blades over 14-6 wide must be removed for transport. Blades, buckets overhanging the
sides of the vehicle must be elevated to provide a minimum of 6’ clearance from the road to the
bottom of the blade.
