Certain areas have spring weight restrictions
Over weight and over length permitted loads may travel 24/7; however, for:
Heights over 13’6” travel is permitted during daylight hours only.
Loads 10’2” wide or less may travel 24/7
Loads between 10’2” and 12” are approved for day time travel only on the Trans Canada highway Route 1 from November through April 1, except during major holidays.
Loads between 12’ and 17’5” wide are not approved for night time travel, after 3:00 pm on Fridays or at all on Saturday, Sunday and holidays.
Travel is prohibited on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving, Good Friday, Remembrance Day, Easter Monday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Victoria Day

Oversize Load Signs
“D” signs (1” high, 8’ long), displayed front or rear. Escort vehicles must be equipped with one roof mounted amber revolving lamp having a light source that will emit alternating flashes of light which must be visible from a distance of 492’ in normal daylight.
Flags/Lights
Flags must be fluorescent red and be 1’ square. Flags must be displayed on the extremities of the load during daylight hours. Loads with overhang of 5’11” or more must display a red light to the rear during darkness.

Fees: Based on weight
FINES Where a person commits an offence under subsection 3(2) or section 4, that person is liable on summary conviction to a fine of $100. Plus:
(a) $1.20 for each 50 kilograms of the first 2,300 kilograms;
(b) $2.40 for each 50 kilograms of the excess weight over 2,300 kilograms but not over 4,500 kilograms;
(c) $3.60 for each 50 kilograms of the excess weight over 4,500 kilograms but not over 7,000 kilograms;
(d) $4.80 for each 50 kilograms of the excess weight over 7,000 kilograms but not over 9,000 kilograms;
and
(e) $6 for each 50 kilograms of the excess weight over 9,000 kilograms.
Where a vehicle has a dimension in excess of dimensions specified in section 9, the penalty shall be:
(a) $100 where less than or equal to 0.5 metres overdimension;
(b) $150 where greater than 0.5 metres but less than 1.77 metres overdimension;
(c) $300 where greater than or equal to 1.77 metres but not more than 2.6 metres; and
(d) $750 where greater than 2.6 metres overdimension.
In addition to the penalty imposed, in no case shall an overweight or overdimension proceed until a special permit has been obtained and all conditions attached have been complied with.
